President William Ruto on Tuesday announced that Kenyan creatives on Facebook and Instagram will be able to monetise their content after a partnership with Meta.
The president who was speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations held at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi noted that Meta will be expanding monetisation opportunities in the country.
While saying that the move will help the youth earn a living, Ruto acknowledged that the country possesses impressive credentials as a source of highly professional human capital with highly educated, trained, skilled and dynamic young people.
"I have good news for our creatives and those who imagine and produce content through Facebook and Instagram. Just yesterday, Meta committed to helping creators in Kenya earn money for crafting original content. Following a pilot programme with eligible creators in the country, Meta will expand monetisation opportunities and allow more creators to earn a living doing what they love," Ruto said.
At the same time, the president reiterated that the country had negotiated bilateral agreements with different countries to create opportunities for Kenyans across different organisations.
"We have systematically and intentionally created, and negotiated separate bilateral agreements with countries in the Middle East, Europe and the Americas to connect our skilled workforce with opportunities globally, this would produce exposure to thousands of Kenyans to work in international organizations, engage in global assignments and monetise their skills and talent as they enhance their incomes and personal development," he added.
