Police Intercept Man Transporting Bhang Worth Ksh 1.4 Million

Police officers from Kakamega County have intercepted a man linked to transporting bhang with a street value of Ksh1.4 million along the Kisumu-Kakamega road.
In a statement on the official X account on Monday, December 22, 2025, the National Police announced that the man was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation conducted along the Kisumu-Kakamega Road.
“Police officers in Kakamega County have recorded a significant success in the fight against narcotic drugs following an intelligence-led operation conducted along the Kisumu-Kakamega Road,” NPS said.
At the time of the arrest, the officers revealed that the man was nabbed after the officers intercepted a public service vehicle.
After the interception, the officers recovered a large consignment of dry green plant material suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

“A search of a public service vehicle intercepted by the officers led to the recovery of a large consignment of dry green plant material suspected to be Cannabis sativa,” NPS added.
The officers revealed that the narcotics were concealed in several bags and a sack, packaged into multiple bales.
According to the officers, the bhang weighed approximately forty-eight kilograms.
“The narcotics were concealed in several bags and a sack, packaged into multiple bales, with a total weight of approximately 48 kilograms and an estimated street value of KSh 1.4 million,” NPS stated.
Police have confirmed that the person of interest was arrested at the scene and escorted to the police station, where the recovered narcotic drugs were secured as exhibits.

On the other hand, the police have called on members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by sharing information on drug-related activities.
“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related criminal networks, which pose a serious threat to public health, safety, and national security,” NPS said.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue cooperating with the police by sharing information on drug-related activities,” NPS noted.
