Patient Dies by Suicide in Homa Bay County Referral Hospital Toilet

A 38-year-old patient died by suicide at the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital ward.

Detectives said they are investigating the motive behind the Sunday incident.

 

The man, identified as Mike Jum, is said to have hanged himself inside a toilet, where he was recuperating after an admission.

He used his belt for the mission, police said.

 

The hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Vincent Oduor, said that the patient who has been ailing from Tuberculosis was admitted to the isolation cube where he was receiving medical attention. 

 

The deceased’s body was found inside the toilet by a caretaker, who raised an alarm to the hospital management.

Homa Bay Sub County Police Commander Emmanuel Kiplagat said their preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had skipped his TB medications before the incident. 

 

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

In Ruiru, Kiambu County, a 25-year-old woman was found dead after a suspected suicide incident.

 

Police said the body of Wendy Ongayo was found hanging on a nylon rope and tied to a curtain rod hanger.

She had been to a salon before she came back to the house on May 18, where the body was found.

 

Her boyfriend said they had earlier left the house as the woman went to the salon and he went for his errands.

The woman was wearing a polythene bag on her head when the body was found.

 

Police said a suicide note was found in the house.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

 

Elsewhere in Loitoktok, Kajiado County, a 15-year-old boy died by suicide outside his parents’ house.

The motive of the incident is yet to be established, police said.

 

The body was found hanging from a tree next to his parents’ house on May 16.

Police said the body was moved to the Loitoktok morgue awaiting autopsy.

 

Elsewhere in Nyalenda, Kisumu County, one Joachim Mugwang Ayimba, 89, was found dead in his locked house.

His relative went to check on him and found the door locked from the inside.

 

The relative opened the house through a window and found the deceased seated on a chair and leaning over the table while facing downwards.

Police visited the scene, and the body was found seated on the chair and leaning on the table, facing downwards, and fluid oozing from his mouth. The body had no physical injuries.

 

The cause of death was not immediately established, and the body was moved to Kisumu County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
