Kenyan athlete Ferdinand Omanyala has broken his silence one day after failing to qualify for the 100m final at the ongoing Olympics in Paris, France.
Through his Instagram page, Omanyala hinted that what he is going through right now is a very difficult time, but he acknowledged that he fully understands it is all part of God's plan.
The athlete thanked Kenyans who celebrated him despite his failure to make it to the finals, expressing confidence that Kenya's history in the 100m will no longer be ordinary but will change.
"Whatever you are facing now is not the end of your story. God is with you and will always be. Thank you to everyone who believes that Kenya’s story will no longer be ordinary," Omanyala wrote.
The athlete finished last in the semi-final, thus failing to secure a place in the final.
The finals witnessed a tight race where all participants finished within a second of each other, prompting the organizers to determine the winner using photo-finish technology.
American Noah Lyles won the race, ending a 20-year wait for the U.S. to claim the Olympic 100m title.
Despite Omanyala’s disappointing results, many Kenyans congratulated him for flying the Kenyan flag high in races that were previously dominated by other nations.
“Amina. More water for your cup. Always continue to be a light. Thank you, brother,” Bien Aime Sol said.
“You still made us proud! Keep going up,” journalist Larry Madowo commented.
“THE KING!!! Tomorrow is yours,” said King Kaka.
