"ODM has not joined Kenya Kwanza" Gladys Wanga insists

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) says it has not joined President William Ruto's broad-based government, nor has it formed a coalition pact with the Kenya Kwanza government.

During a meeting with ODM delegates in Msambweni, Kwale County, the party’s National Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, emphasized that ODM is focusing on strengthening its grassroots levels and assured members that the party will field a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2027 elections.

"You know, for unity to happen, there must be a memorandum stating 'this is the memorandum of our agreement.' This person will do this, and that person will do that; until now, there is no memorandum at all. Therefore, ODM is a standing-alone party," she said.

Wanga, who was accompanied by ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, reiterated that the party is managing its affairs independently.

"Right now, ODM has its own stance and its own direction. We are not part of the government; let’s understand that government matters are for the government. We are a party, and we are proud. We are proud that in the National Assembly and in the Senate we are called the minority, and we will not shy away," Nassir pointed out.
