Nyeri: Police launch manhunt for a man accused of killing his wife

Police in Mathira, Nyeri County on Tuesday launched a manhunt for a 33-year-old man accused of killing his wife and fleeing the scene.

The man was accused of convincing his 26-year-old wife to join him in his rented house before stabbing her and slitting her throat. The two were reportedly estranged before the incident.

Additionally, the suspect was believed to have also hit her head with a blunt object killing her on the spot.

He allegedly targeted his estranged wife while she was picking up their child. However, it was yet to be established whether the child was harmed during the incident.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene before neighbours gained access to the rented apartment only to find her lifeless body inside the house lying in a pool of blood.

The neighbours called police officers who rushed to the scene, accessed the area and collected evidence. The law enforcers also took the deceased's body to a morgue in Karatina.

Before their sudden separation and murder incident, the two had been married for two years and had a one-year and six-month-old child.

Family and friends condemned the heinous act and called upon the police officers to ensure the suspect is brought to book.

Additionally, Kenyans also cited the need to find peaceful and amicable ways to solve marital disputes to avoid such senseless murders.

Over the past few months, several incidents of murder in the marriage set-up have been reported across the country with some suspects killing themselves leading to double tragedy.

In March, a man was arrested in Trans Nzoia County after killing his wife and lover. The man took drastic action after finding out his wife was unfaithful to him.

Another incident was reported in the same month in Kericho where a man was stabbed to death at his rental apartment.
