Five teenagers are nursing injuries in hospital after lightning struck a house they were sheltering in amid heavy rains in Karandit village, Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.
The victims' mother Emily Cheruiot revealed she had asked one of the teens to put down his phone, warning him of the possible dangers that might occur.
"Lightning struck at 6.30pm following heavy rains and it struck the youths whom we were together in the same room. When it struck, all of them fell to the ground and started crawling using their stomach," said Cheruiot who escaped unharmed.
James Langat, one of the residents, said the victims were immediately rushed for medical treatment at Keringet Nursing Home and Olenguruone sub-county hospitals.
Medics at the facilities have confirmed that the teenagers are in stable condition.
