Detectives are investigating an incident in Mowlem, Nairobi, where a 53-year-old man was stabbed and killed while fighting off four robbers.
His wife and daughter managed to escape uninjured after fleeing the scene at dawn on Wednesday, police reported.
The deceased, identified as Isaya Chiteri, was walking home with his wife and daughter in the Penyanya area when they were confronted by the four men.
Chiteri reportedly fought back, prompting one of the attackers to stab him in the chest below the breast, police said.
He was rescued by responders and rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
Police said the gang made off with an unknown amount of money and valuables from Chiteri before escaping.
The hunt for the suspects is ongoing, authorities added, noting that operations to address insecurity in the city have been intensified. These efforts have led to the arrest of more than 300 people in a week, both in the city centre and in various estates.
Police said operations continue and urged the public to cooperate in solving such cases. Reporting robbery incidents is crucial, as it aids in profiling suspects and pursuing investigations effectively.
Nairobi police boss George Seda emphasised that failure by victims to report crimes has hindered the overall war on crime.
“It is important you report to help our teams in analysing the cases for action,” he said.
In a separate incident in Kehancha, Migori County, a 25-year-old man, Kevin Mwita, was found murdered, his body lying in a pool of blood.
The assailants stabbed him in the neck, killing him on the spot. Police said the attackers escaped without taking any belongings, and the motive remains unknown. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police noted that such murder cases have been rising in the area, despite ongoing efforts to address them. Investigations suggest that many killings in the region are linked to land disputes and love triangles.
Authorities have arrested and arraigned some suspects connected to these incidents, and investigations continue.
Police reiterated the importance of public cooperation in reporting crimes to help tackle insecurity, ensure justice for victims, and aid in apprehending offenders.
