Mwangi wa Iria's wife Jane Waigwe pleads not guilty to Murang'a county corruption charges

Former Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria's wife Jane Waigwe Kimani was on Tuesday presented in court to take plea in a Ksh.562 million Murang'a County corruption case.

Appearing before Milimani Anti-Corruption Magistrate Victor Wakhumile, Jane was charged with corruption charges which she pleaded not guilty to alongside her co-accused David Maina Kiama (her brother).

In the first count, she was charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption.

It is alleged that between October 21, 2014, and June 19, 2017, Jane alongside nine other accused persons unlawfully contracted for the provisions of media services awarded Top Image Media Consultant Limited, amounting to over Ksh.351 million.

They were released on a bond of Ksh.5 million or a cash bail of Ksh.1 million.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has also confirmed that the accused were also ordered to deposit travel documents with the court and not to leave the country without the court’s permission.

On April 30, the ex-governor spent a night in the Industrial Area Prison after failing to raise a KSh. 20 million bond and an alternative cash bail of KSh. 10 million.

He is facing a number of corruption charges, including abuse of office, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, and money laundering, all to which he has pleaded not guilty.
