Molo: 5 suspected gang members involved in criminal activities arrested

Police in Molo have arrested five suspected gangsters believed to have been involved in a spate of criminal activities in the town.

The suspects are said to have been armed with crude weapons, including buttons, machetes, knives, swords and apparatus used in breaking into premises

Molo police commander Timon Odingo confirmed the arrest saying police swung into action after a tip-off from members of the public

He said residents of Huruma, Maishani and Kenyatta have complained about the gang that has been terrorizing the estates as darkness creeps in and in the wee hours of the morning

Odingo said the suspects were also found with bhang calling on residents of Molo to volunteer with information regarding organized criminals living among them

At Kenyatta estate, A young man who left his house towards a shopping centre is said to have lost his phone and was later threatened by a member of the gang who robbed him

Another victim who is a middle-aged woman lost her mobile phone and money. She said she was accosted by the thugs as she headed home from the market before she was robbed of her variables at around 8 pm in the evening.

Franked by area OCS Johnson Lemuna, Odingo said the five will be arraigned in court on Monday after a conclusive investigation

Several victims visited the police station and identified the suspects and are now assisting the police with investigations

The residents have urged the police to continue enhancing night patrols and to seriously act on confidential information given out by WANANCHI in the war against crime.

 Mchanganyiko, Kiratina and Section 58 are some of the areas largely affected by the surge in criminal attacks at night and in broad daylight
