Meru: A 28-year-old woman fatally stabbed during a confrontation in a bar

A 28-year-old woman was stabbed to death during a scuffle in a bar in Chuka, Meru County on Monday morning.

Police said they were in pursuit of the suspect who is on the run and who was known to the woman.

Security at the pub stumbled on the body of Karimi Wangi hours after she had died.

Police visited the scene and found the body with a deep wound on the left side of the neck.

It was established that the deceased was in the company of her boyfriend in the said bar when a fight ensued between them and the suspect stabbed her and fled to an unknown destination.

The cause of the fight was not immediately established.

Police moved the body to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem even as the hunt for the suspect goes on.

Police also talked to the club management and witnesses as part of the probe into the tragedy.

Meanwhile, police in the same area of Murungurune, Meru County are investigating an incident in which a man identified as Douglas Mutethia Mba, 41 died by suspected suicide.

His body was found in his house in Bubui Village hanging on a rope that was tied around his neck on one of the roof rafters of his bedroom.

No suicide note was found and the motive was not immediately established.

The body was removed to Kanyakine Subcounty Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

In Kiritiri, Mbeere, Embu County, a woman aged 36 also died by suspected suicide.

Police said the body of Bilha Wangari was found hanging on a sisal rope that was tied around her neck on a mango tree in her parent's homestead.

It was established that the deceased had a mental problem and was under medication.

But police said they are investigating the incident to establish how she died.

The body, which had no visible injuries was moved to the Embu Level Five Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

In Kathiani, Machakos County, 24-year-old Mutua Koki died by suspected suicide.

His body was found hanging with a sisal rope tied around his neck on a mango tree in his grandmother's farm.

Police said no suicide note was found.

The body, which had no visible injuries moved to the Kathiani Level Four Hospital morgue for postmortem.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid calls to address the trend. Police say they record at least two cases daily.
