Lamu: Police apprehend a Form Three student accused of killing a KCSE candidate

Lamu police have arrested an 18-year-old Form Three student suspected of fatally stabbing a Form Four candidate on Monday.

According to Lamu police boss William Samoei, on Wednesday night, the student was apprehended at his concealed location in Tchundwa village. The individual is currently under custody at the Kizingitini police station for further investigation.

Mohamed Bakari, a 20-year-old individual, was at Faza Secondary School's Form Three block, visiting a friend, when an attacker suddenly produced a knife and fatally stabbed him from behind, resulting in instantaneous death.

Mr. Samoei stated that they intend to bring the assailant to court and press charges of murder against them.

Following the burial of the victim under tight security, a gloomy atmosphere descended upon Faza village on Monday evening.

The incident has created a division between the two neighboring villages of Faza, where the deceased resided, and Tchundwa, where the suspect is from.

As a consequence of the incident, the school has been closed indefinitely, and all 231 students have been sent home.

Lamu's Director of Education, Joshua Kaaga, expressed his regret over the unfortunate occurrence and announced the decision to temporarily close the school until further notice. He expressed hope that Faza would regain normalcy, enabling the institution to reopen for learning, possibly within a week.
