The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) is set to hold a peaceful protest on Tuesday next week.
In a letter addressed to Nairobi County Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei, KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah said the procession will serve to highlight the state of healthcare in the country.
Dr Atellah, in the letter, asked for police to provide security during the procession.
“In light of the importance of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all participants, we kindly request your assistance in providing security during this event. Your cooperation and support in facilitating a peaceful and orderly procession would be greatly appreciated,” the KMPDU boss appealed.
Atellah stated that the event would kick off at the Kenya National Hospital, head to the Ministry of Health, proceed to the Council of Governors, and conclude at the National Treasury.
"The route of the procession will be from the Kenyatta National Hospital-Ministry of Health-Council of Governors and subsequently to the Treasury,” stated Atellah.
Doctors have been on strike since March 14 over the government’s failure to post the interns and the health ministry’s non-adherence to the medics’ 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
