Detectives in Kitui are investigating the heinous murder of 46-year-old Patrick Mutua Wambua, whose lifeless body was discovered submerged in a 250-litre plastic drum filled with water. 

The incident, reported on the morning of November 24, 2024, occurred in Matinyani Sub-County.

A team headed by Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Matinyani, along with Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Matinyani and other officers, visited the scene. 

When police arrived, they found the body crammed into the drum, with the head protruding on top.

 No other injuries were seen, but there was a cut wound on the neck beneath the chin.

A blood-stained panga was found in the kitchen, where the deceased was thought to have been spending his nights, according to additional investigations conducted at the scene.

The weapon is being examined as part of the investigation after being gathered as evidence.

The body was taken to the mortuary at Kitui County Referral Hospital after the scene was processed and recorded by the authorities.

There, a post-mortem examination is anticipated to provide additional insight into the cause of death.
