Veteran Kenyan artist King Kaka is facing backlash after he posted a video noting that he wanted to gift a fan who tied his laces while he was performing the very same shoes he'd worn for the performance.
That seems like something cool right? In the West people would jusmp at such an opportunity, a lot of celebrities wear is auctioned as collectables but not in Kenya.
Why the backlash though? Fans felt that the rapper was clout chasing and if he really wanted to he'd have gifted the fan on the night of the event.
In the said video a young lad in the front line could be seen tying Kaka's Adidas Superstars (priced at 20k) while he sang along.
Seconds later he noticed the young man's efforts and stood still with his leg stretched out to help the guy tie the lace better as there was a little bit of a scramble. Other revellers looked on and recorded the interestingly moment.
Captioning the now viral video the father of 2 asked his over 1.9 million Instagram followers to help him locate the fan as he wanted to gift him the said shoes.
"I want gift him these shoes. He was dedicated in tying my laces during my show jana in Eldoret. Please tag him," wrote the artist.
However, what the rapper did not expect is some of the backlash that came his way following the post.
Fans were curious as to why the rapper didn't gift the good Samaritan who helped him out there and then while others noted that it would have been better if King Kaka had bought the guy a brand new pair instead of giving him his worn pair.
A notable comment was left by a netizen by the name of Fred commenting saying, "You could have gifted him the shoes yesterday ??♀️??♀️ but I guess y’all have to do the “good” for us to see??♀️??♀️,"
To which King Kaka defended by noting that he couldn't perform barefooted while noting he was still looking for the young fellow.
"@atriciafred ninge Perform mguu tupu I guess so silly of me. Next time ill do that . Thanks for the advice. In the meantime let me look for him," the rapper wrote in his reply.
