Kifo cha mende singer Iyaani opens up about battling depression

Kifo Cha Mende hitmaker Iyaani has opened up on his battle with depression. For someone whose songs are sang word to word by Kenyans, it's hard to imagine him being depressed.

He also talked about how being in a depressed state inspired the song Maisha featuring Mejja. The song was to encourage anyone going through a tough time.

“There was a time when I was deeply depressed. Things just weren’t going right. I called Mejja and told him I was going through a tough time. We were both facing our own challenges,” Stated Iyanii

Iyannii thanked those around him for supporting him during that phase of his life.

“Sometimes, it feels like everything is overwhelming, and you feel alone with no one to turn to. Despite everything we go through in life, things will get better,” Iyanii added.

The 'Pombe' hitmaker shared he creates music that uplifts people hence the creation of creative and upbeat music.

“I want people to hear my songs, whether in clubs, weddings, or at home, and feel uplifted,” he said, explaining his love for creating positive, upbeat music.

Iyaani joins a long list of Kenyan musicians who have spoken about their experiences with depression.
