Kiambu: Woman found murdered, her breast chopped off

Cases of women getting killed in the country have reached alarming levels following reports that the body of another woman was discovered lying in a thicket in Kiganjo, Gatundu South on Sunday evening with her left breast cut off.

Police said the woman aged 55 had attended church at PCEA Kiganjo earlier in the day and was expected at a family event later that evening in Itikarua village but did not show up.

Efforts by the family to reach her were futile as they could not reach her on phone.

Later, they were informed by a neighbor of the deceased that the body of a woman had been found near a bridge some few metres from their home which was assessed and found to be that of the deceased.

The body was taken to Gatundu Level Five hospital mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted.

At the same time, on Saturday night police officers on patrol at Githurai 44 area heard a woman screaming in one of the rentals and rushed to her aid.

The officers found that the 24-year-old woman was being assaulted by her boyfriend following a misunderstanding.

They arrested the suspect identified as Clinton Mwangi and rushed the victim to hospital in critical condition.

“The officers rushed the victim who had sustained deep cuts on her right buttock and minor cuts on her left arm and left leg to Imani Medical Centre while bleeding profusely. She was treated and referred to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital using a police vehicle for specialized treatment in critical condition but succumbed to the injuries on arrival at the hospital,” the officers stated in the OB number 37/20/1/2024.

Rita’s body was discovered on Sunday last week, stabbed, decapitated and stuffed in a paper bag in an apartment along TRM drive, Nairobi.

Three days later, her family said she had left her aunt’s residence in Syokimau to meet with a friend but instead of returning home, her father started receiving strange messages from her number demanding for a sh500,000 ransom to secure her release.

The family reported the matter to the police as more demands came in, even after she had been murdered.

Later, a post mortem on her body revealed that her killers also clipped her nails in a possible attempt to hide evidence.

Rita’s killing follows that of socialite Starlet Wahu who was found killed in an apartment in South B.

Cases of gender based violence are on the rise in the country with women rights activists now calling for a nationwide protest on Saturday at Jevanjee garden starting 10am.

The protest that will also take place in Kisumu and Mombasa counties seeks to condemn the rising and shocking cases of women murders in the country.
