A man accused of raping and robbing a woman off her mobile phone and some money has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
39-year-old James Mwangi Wanjahi, who has been on the run since February 17, 2024, was arrested in Kabete, Kiambu County.
“Crime research detectives based at DCI Headquarters have arrested a suspect of robbery and rape who lured a 40-year-old woman into a business deal only to commit the abominable act,” the DCI said, in part.
Detectives said that the suspect was fished out of his hideout in Kabete, and a phone stolen from the victim recovered.
In the February incident Wanjahi, posing as a customer, called his victim for a meeting in Nairobi to discuss a potential business deal.
He would later turn against her when she boarded his supposed car to the meeting place.
“On boarding the vehicle, she had passed out only to gain her senses hours later to find herself abandoned in the same car at a thicket in Gilgil, robbed of Ksh. 17,000, stripped half-naked and raped,” said the DCI.
The suspect is being held at Gilgil Police Station pending his arraignment.
