Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has categorically denied rumours of an impending impeachment, labelling them as baseless distractions.
Speaking at the inauguration of the "Dishi na County" kitchen in Umoja, Sakaja emphasised that his administration is still committed to keeping its promises to Nairobi residents.
Governor Sakaja addressed the audience nd highlighted the progress his administration has made, including the successful launch of 17 kitchens in 17 sub-counties.
“We will not be distracted by naysayers. Our focus is on delivering what we promised,” he asserted.
The Governor also addressed rumours in some media outlets that a motion to impeach him was being prepared.
He urged his executive team to ignore such speculations and focus solely on their service delivery mandate.
"We have a mandate, and we don't have time for rumors. Our priority is to work for our people, not to engage in gossip," Sakaja reiterated.
In addition to responding to impeachment rumours, Governor Sakaja denied being removed from President William Ruto's delegation to China.
He clarified that he was not scheduled to travel, as he was committed to launching projects within Nairobi.
"Which plane are people talking about? I was supposed to be in Umoja today, not in China. Those are just rumors," Sakaja remarked.
Governor Sakaja also praised President Ruto's collaboration with Raila Odinga, noting that his administration has been successful despite having a minority in the county assembly.
"Many were skeptical about my decision to work with the opposition, but now it’s clear that we have a national government of inclusivity that will deliver. We fully support that," he said.
Several County Assembly (MCA) members who attended the event, including Umoja MCA Mark Ronaldo and Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo, echoed the Governor's sentiments.
They urged the county executive to prioritise service delivery and dismissed impeachment rumours.
"This is not Meru County; we will not impeach our Governor," said Odhiambo. Ronaldo added, "If anything, before we consider impeachment, those in the executive who are underperforming should go home first."
