"I'm being guarded by volunteers who are retired officers" Rigathi Gachagua

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua claims ex-soldiers have volunteered to guard his homes and offer private security.

This he said on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi show on Sunday, saying that his official security team has remained withdrawn since the consecration and installation of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u in Embu County on November 16, 2024.

He claimed that after his impeachment, he had been assigned six officers; four stationed at his home and two as private security.

The ousted DP now noted that retired officers have offered to man his homes and protect him, especially amid allegations of assassination attempts on his life.

"I'm being guarded by volunteers who are retired officers. Some were in KWS, others in KFS," he said.

"When they saw what happened to me in Limuru about 300 people from different places came looking for me and they volunteered to guard my homes and above all God is watching over us. He is the head of all security forces."

Gachagua alleged that the attack on his team during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County, on November 28 was a deliberate plan to harm him.

A group of armed goons disrupted and attacked attendees and even pelted Gachagua's car.

The ex-DP noted that he managed to escape the alleged assassination attempt but he lives in fear that his life is still in danger.

"In Limuru I had no security it is God who protected me because the plan was to assassinate me. Young men came in and removed tent poles and they were looking for me. They were Kikuyu's because they were saying gutha mutwe (hit the head)," Gachagua claimed.

"They came to my car and hit it from all sides but four young men came and lay on top of me and so no pole or stone hit me. One young man suffered injuries and he is currently hospitalized."

Gachagua believes that the targeted attacks are political because of the public engagements he has made since being ousted from office and his fiery statements against President William Ruto's government.

He further noted that he will make a major announcement in 2025 to forge his next political move.
