When MCA Tricky auditioned for the Churchill show, he was given 3 chances to prove himself.
He started his comedy persona as a 'chokora'. (street kid).
He survived and opened up about how he pulled off his 'chokora' persona to Oga Obinna.
"The idea to be a chokora was simple. I had done my research. -jokes, performances- to know what to offer. So i noticed kila msee stage alipiga ma look. So I decided how about I do the opposite? A vibe that no one thinks of representing. But I also went through personal challenges where I almost landed in the streets. Infact the character I played was my friend, a real chokora"
This was at Uhuru Park where they would idle around and lay their strategy for life.
"That guy would make me laugh so hard with stories. So it would ring back and was like how about I package this to a character and go on stage? I didn't know if it would work"
He auditioned for Churchill "and that's where MCA Tricky was born . They liked that character" with his dirty coat synonymous with his chokora look.
His coat was stolen
"I was living in Ruiru and one day at the clothesline, it was stolen. Maze I had to go back to Gikosh to look for another one"
He was a second year students at KU studying Mechanical Engineering. His character was criticized by some
"Some people were waiting for me to flop. I don't know why. Watu wengi walikuwa wanashindwa am I mocking the street kids, am I taking advantage of them, am I using sympathy? Some guys said that people were laughing at my jokes because they sympathized with me."
