Government To Introduce Merit-Based Recruitment System In Public Service: CS Ruku

The government is set to roll out a new recruitment mechanism anchored on meritocracy to ensure qualified youths secure jobs based on merit, Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has announced.
Speaking in Yatta, Machakos County, during a relief food distribution exercise, Ruku said advanced technology will be deployed across the public service and government institutions to curb nepotism and corruption.
He noted that for years, jobs have been awarded to individuals with political connections or influence, often without experience or academic qualifications.
“This will be a thing of the past. Employment will now be strictly merit-based,” Ruku stated, adding that relief food will be distributed fairly across all wards in Yatta sub-county without discrimination.
The CS also took aim at opposition leaders, dismissing Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and accusing him of failing to deliver for the Ukambani region despite serving in government for many years.
He urged Kenyans not to be swayed by the opposition, saying the same government they criticize is the one paying salaries and bills for some of its leaders.

Daniel Mumo, a parent who has struggled to secure employment for his children, applauded the pronouncement, saying it will bring balance and equity in the recruitment exercise.
Joseph Kaloki noted that it has been difficult even when using online platforms to seek jobs for his children, but expressed hope that the CS’s announcement will be implemented.
Jackson Mutinda, a youth from Katangi, said many young people have given up in their search for employment but believes today’s pronouncement by the CS will rekindle their fading hopes.
