The government is set to open Attorney General offices across 15 counties to decentralise services to regional areas for effective service delivery.
In a notice, some of the services to be offered beginning January 1, 2025, will include civil litigation, public trustee, marriage registration and National legal aid.
The 15 counties comprise Nyandarua, Narok, Tana River, Tharaka Nithi, Baringo, Trans Nzoia and Makueni.
Others include Lamu, Vihiga, Kajiado, Marsabit, Isiolo, Wajir, Elgeyo Marakwet and Kiambu.
"The Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice assures the public of its commitment to its mission to facilitate the realization of good governance and respect for the rule of law through the provision of public legal services, protection and promotion of human rights," the notice read in part.
The move is in line with Section 6 (3)(b) of the Attorney-General Act which states that the AG should establish regional offices in areas deemed necessary.
Further, the AG had sought Cabinet approval last year to establish the offices. On June 27, 2023, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the offices across the 47 counties.
Already, the AG's office is present in 13 counties namely Malindi, Mombasa, Garissa, Machakos, Embu, Meru, Nyeri, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kisii and Kericho.
