Gloria Orwoba Withdraws Petition Against UDA, IEBC in Fight to Reclaim Senate Seat

Former nominated United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Senator Gloria Orwoba has withdrawn a petition she filed at the Milimani Constitutional and Human Rights Division challenging her removal from the Senate.
Orwoba, through her lawyer, Ombaso, appeared before Justice Chacha Mwita, informing the court that he had filed a notice to withdraw a case filed on August 20, 2025, and requested that it be formally marked as withdrawn.
“It is my request that the same petition be marked as withdrawn,” Ombaso told the court.
Justice Mwita, allowed the application and therefore ordered the case closed.
Orwoba, August 18, moved to the court seeking a conservatory order quashing a gazette notice dated May 21, 2025, declaring her position vacant.
She argued that the decision of her removal was unlawful and defective.
In her application, Orwoba had also sought conservatory orders blocking the swearing-in of her successor, Consolata Wabwire, who was nominated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to replace her.
She wanted the High Court to declare that the actions of UDA, the Senate, IEBC, and the Registrar of Political Parties were unconstitutional and violated her political rights.

“A declaration that the respondents (UDA, the National Senate, IEBC, and the office of the Registrar of Political Parties) infringed on the petitioners’ (Orwoba) political rights, rights to administrative action and the right to a fair hearing,” part of Orwoba’s application read.
On August 20, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal quashed the UDA Party's decision to expel former Orwoba.
The Tribunal, in the ruling, revealed that it found that the disciplinary proceedings against Orwoba were marred by legal procedural lapses and irregularities.
The withdrawn petition had also sought a declaration that Orwoba’s expulsion from the UDA party and her removal from the Senate were unconstitutional, unlawful, and null and void from the outset.
She had accused the party and relevant bodies of violating her political rights, right to fair administrative action, and right to a fair hearing.
Additionally, Orwoba had requested an order of prohibition to restrain the respondents from further interfering with her position and rights as a nominated senator.
The withdrawal marks a significant turn in the political saga that has seen Gloria Orwoba at odds with her party, culminating in her replacement in the Senate.
It is not immediately clear whether she plans to pursue any further legal or political action following the petition’s withdrawal.
Following the findings, the tribunal ordered the party to reverse its prior decision to remove Orwoba from the party.
