EACC detectives arrest Garissa Water and Sewerage Company boss Dolal Mohamed Mohamud for forging academic documents

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday arrested Dolal Mohamed Mohamud, the Managing Director of Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO), on allegations of fabricating his academic qualifications.

Mohamud is suspected of falsifying his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate in order to gain admission to the University of Nairobi (UoN).

A source at the commission told Citizen Digital that Mohamud scored Grade D in his KCSE exams, but fabricated his certificate to falsely reflect a C+ grade that is a prerequisite for university admission.

Mohamud then went ahead to use the forged certificate to pursue a Diploma in Public Relations and Certificate in Purchasing and Supplies at UoN, before undertaking a Bachelor’s degree course in Development Studies at the Mt. Kenya University.

He is said to have joined GAWASCO in February 2007 as a Billing Clerk, before being appointed the Human Resource and Administration Manager on December 1, 2015.

Mohamud was on March 12, 2020 named the Corporate Affairs Manager before rising to Acting Managing Director in August 2022, and confirmed to the position in September 2023.

During this period, the source said, the suspect earned a total of Ksh.12,987,290 in salaries and benefits, which the commission now seeks to recover.

Mohamud was nabbed at his office and is presently being held at the Garissa Police Station pending arraignment on Friday morning.
