Drama unfolds after Nigeria unveils Nigerian Air using Ethiopian Airline Plane

Chaos erupted after Nigeria Unveiled Nigeria Air Using An Ethiopian Airlines Plane.

In a saga that is all too Nigerian, the giant West African country's political gimmickry is yet again in the news after it was revealed that an aircraft that was unveiled as Nigeria Air Airliner was actually an Ethiopian aircraft.

Dapo Olumide, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Nigeria Air confirmed that the aircraft used for the unveiling of the national carrier was a chartered flight from Ethiopian Airlines.

Speaking when he appeared before a house of representatives committee on aviation, Olumide said the aircraft was returned to Ethiopia 48 hours after the unveiling.

“The aircraft was a chartered flight. Of course, as an airline, you can make the colour anything you like. If you are going for a destination wedding, and you chartered an airline to take your guest to Accra. If you pay, you can have the tail painted with the picture of your wife. It does not matter. It is a chartered flight."

The airline was unveiled on Muhamadu Buhari's last day in office, claiming it would generate $1 billion in revenue within five years.

The airline was one of President Muhammadu Buhari's 2015 election campaign promises.
