Diamond Platnumz’s mother, Mama Dangote, has sent a heartfelt birthday message to her son, praying for God’s guidance and blessings amid continued debate over his recent gospel collaboration.

Mama Dangote on Friday, October 2, 2026, celebrated the Tanzanian superstar, whom she affectionately referred to as “Tom kaka”, while assuring him of her love.

“Mwenyezi Mungu azidi kukuongoza kwa kila kitu chema mwanangu! Akuongezee riziki na baraka tele Kichwa wangu. Jua, tu mama yako nakupenda zaidi ya sana. Happy birthday, Tom Kaka,” Mama Dangote wrote.

Her message comes days after Diamond released Nikumbuke, a prayer-themed collaboration with Tanzanian gospel artiste Joel Lwaga.

The song, released on September 23, 2026, has sparked debate because Diamond is primarily known for Bongo Flava and Afropop, while Lwaga is a gospel artiste.

Some gospel artistes have questioned collaborations between gospel musicians and secular artistes.

Veteran gospel singer Rose Muhando, for instance, said she would personally not collaborate with secular artistes unless she believed God had instructed her to do so.

Gospel singer Bahati Bukuku also criticised such collaborations, saying she personally could not work with secular artistes because of her spiritual convictions.

Diamond responds to his mother

Diamond responded to his mother’s birthday message with an equally emotional tribute, thanking her for giving birth to him and raising him.

“Nakupenda Zaidi Mama yangu, nakupenda sana…Asante kwa kunizaa na Kunilea,” Diamond said.

The singer then prayed for his mother, asking God to grant her a long life filled with good health, happiness, peace, love and success.

“Nakuombea kwa Mwenyez Mungu akupe Maisha Marefu zaidi yenye Afya,Furaha, Amani, Upedo, Mafanikio,” he added.

Diamond concluded his message by praying for his mother to receive a place in heaven.

“Akujaalie Pepo ya Daraja la Juu kesho Kiama,” he said.

Diamond defends gospel collaboration

The birthday exchange comes as Diamond continues to face questions over his decision to work with Lwaga.

Diamond has acknowledged that the collaboration has received mixed reactions, saying some people loved the song while others were unhappy with the pairing.

“Tunatazama, tuna macho tunaona. Wengi wamefurahia jambo hilo wamelipenda sana, lakini pia wengine ambao wapo walikosoka na mmoja au mwingine,” he said.

He has defended the collaboration by explaining that the purpose was to reach people who may not already understand the message.

“If you avoid people who already understand, how will others understand?” Diamond asked.

He further argued that people who need to hear a message should be reached rather than avoided.

“Ni lazima uwafate,” he said.

His sister, Esma Platnumz, has also defended the collaboration, responding to criticism by saying Diamond remains highly sought-after even by gospel artistes.

“Naseeb ni ndoto ya kila Gospel ya kila mtu waongo ni wivu tuu,” Esma said.

The gospel collaboration has therefore continued to generate discussion, with Diamond maintaining that Nikumbuke provides an opportunity to reach a wider audience with its message.
