The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released images of a woman believed to have been involved in the brutal murder of Nairobi Hospital Acting Finance Director Eric Maigo who was stabbed 25 times on the morning of Friday, September 15, 2023.
In the images captured by CCTV cameras, the unidentified woman is seen attempting to escape from the victim’s residence at Woodley Annex–Upper by scaling through the perimeter wall.
According to the DCI, investigations have established that the woman left the house through the backdoor after the cold-blood murder.
“The suspect who was captured leaving the victim's residence at Woodley Annex -Upper is believed to have been involved in the murder most foul before escaping through the back door. Two blood-stained knives believed to have been the murder weapons were recovered from the scene of crime,” said the DCI in a statement on Thursday.
The DCI is now urging members of the public to volunteer any information that would help in identifying the suspect.
So far only one suspect has been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder. The suspect identified as Cynthia Lusega Andalo was arrested and arraigned under miscellaneous application on Monday afternoon where police were allowed to hold her for five days as investigations continue.
Detectives believe she might have knowledge or worked with the main suspect as they were together earlier on the night of Maigo’s murder in his Woodley house.
It was also established that Maigo’s killer used two kitchen knives in the bedroom attack.
According to phone records and CCTV footage analysis, Maigo was last Thursday evening seen at a popular entertainment club just recently opened along Ngong Road. It is here that he met three women including Andalo.
Police visited the club as part of the efforts to identify all those who met him at the joint. It was then they identified Andalo. The officers are yet to know and get two others, who detectives believe include the main suspect.
An analysis of Maigo’s mobile phone shows he sent money to a number of people on Thursday prior to his death. Among the transactions, Andalo was in receipt of Ksh.650 from Maigo.
According to the police, Maigo is then seen walking out in the company of a woman who is believed to be the main suspect. Phone records show they further went to another entertainment joint along Kilimani Road before going home around quarter past 10 pm.
Two kitchen knives recovered next to Maigo’s body bore similar sets of fingerprints, proving that Maigo’s killer used two knives. Detectives are however yet to establish whether she stabbed him with both knives simultaneously or one after another.
With nothing stolen from Maigo’s house and 25 stab wounds on his chest, neck and face, detectives are inclined towards a crime of passion, or a killer with so much rage.
Samples were collected from the body for further analysis and toxicology tests to establish if he was poisoned before the murder as he bore no defence injuries.
