Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary for Information Communication and the Digital Economy, has committed to supporting Gor Mahia, the newly crowned champions, on their continental journey.

During a luncheon held at Nairobi's Ole Sereni Hotel, Owalo awarded the club Sh3 million in recognition of their triumph in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL).

Owalo assured the players that the club would receive a new bus before the upcoming season commences on August 26. He commended the players for bringing pride to the Gor Mahia fraternity by winning the title in a closely contested battle against Tusker.

Encouraging the team to take a short break and prepare for the continental assignment, Owalo emphasized the importance of unity among the players. He expressed his belief that Gor Mahia had the potential to become a formidable team, akin to the 1987 squad that claimed the Mandela Cup.

Having secured their record-extending 20th FKF-PL title, Gor Mahia will represent the country in the lucrative CAF Champions League. Their previous appearance in the prestigious competition occurred in January 2021, where they were eliminated by Algeria's CR Belouizdad.

Owalo reiterated his commitment to providing the club with a bus, stating that progress was underway and that they would receive it within two months. He emphasized that the bus would be of a quality befitting the status of the K'Ogalo family, likening it to those used by renowned clubs like Arsenal and Barcelona.

The luncheon was attended by Gor Mahia's top leadership, including chairman Ambrose Rachier, secretary-general Sam Ochola, vice-chairman Francis Wasuna, football administrator Tom Alila, and coach Johnathan Ministry, among others.

Out of the Sh3 million awarded, the driver and support staff received Sh200,000, the security team was granted Sh300,000, the technical bench took home Sh500,000, while the playing unit and Executive Committee received Sh1 million each.

Owalo declared that Gor Mahia's financial challenges were a thing of the past and assured that he would collaborate with club officials to ensure a successful campaign in the upcoming season, both domestically and continentally. As a gesture, he was presented with a brand new K'Ogalo jersey.

Rachier, congratulating the team, reminded them of the challenges they faced after their loss to Kakamega Homeboyz in their penultimate match of the season. He expressed his gratitude to Owalo for his unwavering support throughout the season and commended everyone who contributed to the club's success.

Gor Mahia is expected to commence their pre-season training next month in preparation for the new season.
