CNN journalist Larry Madowo on Sunday revealed how a section of unknown Kenyans were sending him threatening messages.
While taking to social media over the weekend, Madowo shared screenshots of different chats with threatening messages from different unknown individuals.
"We will deal with you", and "Your days are numbered" some of the messages read.
In some of the messages, the unidentified individuals were insulting the renowned journalists without sharing the motive behind the threats. Some of the suspects added that they were looking forward to meeting them to actualise their threats.
In response to the threats Madowo wrote "I am unbwogable" which is slang for unbowed. The journalist did not elaborate further on his response as his followers began defending him.
A section of Kenyans assured Madowo of his safety adding that they would protect him from the undisclosed suspects looking to intimidate him. They also asked the journalist not to be swayed and should confidently cover the upcoming Tuesday protests.
Madowo was also urged to ignore the suspects sending him threats with some alleging that high-profile officials were behind the threats.
Additionally, Kenyans demanded that Madowo should be accorded respect especially due to how he covered the anti-finance bill protests that have rocked the country in the past two weeks.
"Who is this now threatening a journalist? A journalist should be unbiased, if you feel threatened by Larry's reporting, change your ways instead," one Kenyan commented.
"Those are cowards who can never even come out to face you. Ignore them Larry and carry on your work, the world is seeing you," another one added.
He was also advised to forward the threats to the police and other relevant security personnel to ensure investigations commence and no one is harmed.
The CNN correspondent is among journalists from international media outlets who have pitched tent in the country to cover the ongoing demonstrations organised by young Kenyans against the current regime.
Protests are expected to continue in the coming week despite President William Ruto withdrawing the controversial Finance Bill, 2024.
