Kenyan businessman and political figure Jimi Wanjigi has opened up about a major turning point in his life the moment he decided to quit alcohol at just 25 years old.
Speaking in an interview with Dr. Ofweneke, Wanjigi reflected on how his decision to stop drinking transformed not only his personal growth but also his outlook on success, responsibility, and purpose.
“At age 25, I stopped drinking, and I really advise people to learn to take a step back,” he said. “Kwanza hii ya sherehe I asked myself, what is this nonsense? We are just talking about what we did last weekend and how great we were in school. We are not even talking about tomorrow. Since then, I quit.”

“Alcohol was taking growth away from me”
Wanjigi explained that alcohol had become a distraction that hindered his ambitions, clarity, and ability to make meaningful progress in his life.
“Alcohol was taking growth away from me,” he told Dr. Ofweneke. “It made me realize how much time and energy people waste talking about the past, rather than planning the future.”
The businessman noted that quitting alcohol allowed him to rechannel his focus toward personal development, entrepreneurship, and building a strong foundation for his later achievements.
“I wanted to start making decisions that would affect my tomorrow — not just reliving yesterday,” he said.

Not the first time he has spoken about it
This is not the first time Jimi Wanjigi has spoken publicly about his decision to quit alcohol. In 2023, during an interview on The Wicked Edition with Dr. King’ori, he made a similar revelation.
“At the age of 25, I quit drinking alcohol,” he said then. “Nothing happened — I just wanted to change my lifestyle. I was tired that every weekend, every what, sijui what, tuko hapa Sunday tunakunywa pombe, tunakula nyama.”
He explained that the constant cycle of partying and social drinking had become repetitive and unproductive, and he felt the need to redefine his life’s direction.
“I refused to take pombe anymore,” he said firmly in that interview.

Wanjigi’s consistency in sharing his story over the years shows how deeply his decision impacted his journey and shaped his disciplined lifestyle.
A message of discipline and self-awareness
Wanjigi’s revelation offered rare insight into his personal journey — one that has largely been defined by his role in business and politics. Known for his involvement in high-level political circles and business investments, Wanjigi emphasized that self-discipline and awareness are essential for anyone who wants to grow.

“You must learn when to step back and reflect on where your life is going. For me, quitting alcohol was one of those decisions that gave me direction and purpose,” he said.
His remarks come at a time when concerns about alcohol consumption and substance abuse continue to dominate conversations in Kenya, with authorities warning about the social and economic costs of excessive drinking among young people.
