The 17 Kenyans who tragically lost their lives after consuming toxic illicit alcohol in Kandongu village, Kirinyaga County, are set to be laid to rest today.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to attend the farewell ceremony service, which is scheduled to take place at Kandongu Primary School.
After the initial reports of deaths, further investigations uncovered that the alcohol consumed by the 17 individuals was confiscated liquor stored at the Kiamaciri police station.
A police officer, who wanted to remain anonymous, revealed that the lethal brew had been stored at the station before four rogue officers allegedly sold it to a member of the community.
The four officers were subsequently arrested and arraigned at the Baricho Law Courts.
John Muriithi, the proprietor of the bar the drinks were reportedly sold, is likewise in police custody.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki on Friday vowed that the government will pursue the most severe charges against Muriithi.
He made the remarks after two more people succumbed to the killer brew within the same village.
The Interior CS further underscored the severity of the offense, likening it to acts perpetrated by self-proclaimed preacher Paul Mackenzie of the Shakahola massacre.
