Comedian Eric Omondi Raises Ksh 556,000 For Smokie Mayai Vendor Who Was Harassed by Nairobi City Council Askaris

Eric Omondi has managed to fundraise Ksh 556,000 for Quinter Adhiambo, a smokie Mayai Vendor whose stock was thrown to the ground by city council Askaris.

The vendor caught the attention of the comedian and he mobilised his followers on social media to raise money for Quinter and her family in an attempt to transform their lives.

Today, Eric excitedly announced to his followers that they had successfully raised Ksh 556,000 in just three hours. He urged people to continue contributing to the cause.

"Wakiangusha tunainua!!! Last night, we pulled off a remarkable feat by raising Ksh 556,000 in just three hours for Quinter. This incredible effort was in response to the city council's disgraceful act of kicking and tossing her stock to the ground. What the devil intended to shatter, God used to elevate. It's a resounding victory for us! Let's continue to change Quinter's life completely by sending donations to her at 0702776359."

Yesterday, Nairobi County government askaris had their crackdown on street food hawkers left behind a trail of destruction.

In photos circulated online, vandalised trollies common with smokie-mayai vendors could be seen strewn on the streets, with owners standing by counting losses.

In another photo, several trollies impounded by the county askaris and piled together, ready to be loaded into lorries for an unknown destination, could be seen.

Eggs and smokies could also be seen thrown all over on the pavement, with broken glass beside them, and indication of the destruction from the push and pull between the law enforcers and the hawkers.

The images  attracted significant condemnation from a section of Kenyans, who once again pointed an accusing finger to Governor Johnson Sakaja's administration for the mess.

The Nairobi Governor noted that the events that transpired in the CBD were highly regrettable, vowing to take action on those found culpable.

He ordered the immediate release of all items confiscated by security personnel who targeted street food vendors and a compensation of Ksh 10,000 to each vendor.

"I have ordered the immediate release of all confiscated items, apologized to the traders, and personally compensated each of them to the tune of 10,000 shillings each. "
