A dormitory at Tengecha Boys High School in Kapkatet, Bureti Sub-County, Kericho County, was burnt down on Tuesday night, destroying property of an unknown value.
Reports indicated the inferno began at around 8pm in what some believed could have been a result of an arson attack on the building, which hosts more than 100 students.
According to witnesses, the dormitory was set ablaze moments after a section of the students went on a rampage. However, the locals quickly intervened and stopped the students from protesting.
While the main reason for the protests remains unclear, the residents swiftly put out the flames, which had already destroyed a huge chunk of the storey building.
Videos and images widely shared online showed one of the dormitories completely engulfed in flames as the locals intensified efforts to put out the flame.
The incident at Cheptenye Boys has sparked concerns from members of the public, particularly since Tengecha Boys High School is located just 8 kilometres from Litein Boys High School, which recently experienced a similar fate.
Litein Boys High School has been in the limelight since the week began, following students' unrest that resulted in an arson attack and destruction of property at the school.
Following the unrest witnessed on Sunday, September 21, the school was indefinitely closed, with reports suggesting that the unrest was linked to the refusal to sit the Apex examinations.
Apex exams are a joint examination done by Litein Boys High School and other neighbouring institutions within the county, including Moi Tea, Litein Girls, Tengecha Boys and Korongoi Girls.
However, other sources claimed that the protests were caused by the school administration's refusal for the students to watch an English Premier League game between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Meanwhile, the two incidents at Litein and Tengecha Boys High Schools follow a similar occurrence at Cheptenye Boys High School, which is also located in Kericho County.
The Cheptenye incident took place on September 11, after a group of learners reportedly set two dormitories ablaze while most of the students were attending their afternoon lessons. However, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Nonetheless, students, together with some villagers, quickly intervened and managed to put out the inferno, which had already destroyed a large part of the dormitory.
