Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed the arrest of Kenyan Activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who were detained in Uganda for a month.
Speaking on Saturday, November 8, President Museveni said the two Kenyans were arrested following intelligence reports.
Museveni claimed that Njagi and Oyoo were working with opposition leader Bobi Wine’s group as experts in riots.
“Here we have very good intelligence. We arrested two Kenyans who were working with Kyagulanyi’s group that they are experts in riots,” Museveni stated.
The two went missing on October 1, 2025, after travelling to Uganda to show solidarity with Bobi Wine ahead of Uganda's 2026 presidential elections.
Njagi and Oyoo were taken by four armed men who surrounded them before forcibly bundling them into a waiting vehicle.
The duo was released on Friday, November 7 night and handed over to Kenya's High Commissioner in Uganda, who facilitated their travel to Busia, where they were received by County Commissioner Chaunga Mwachaunga.
In a statement, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’Oei, commended the Kenyan mission in Kampala for their dedication to tracing the missing individuals.
“Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo are free and on Kenyan territory. Late last night, after lengthy engagements, the two were released to our High Commissioner in Uganda, Joash Maangi.

"They were escorted by the Ambassador and officials of the Uganda government to Busia border town and were received by Busia County Commissioner, Chaunga Mwachaunga,” he stated.
Speaking after landing in Nairobi, Njagi revealed that they were detained by the Ugandan military and were subjected to torture
“Thirty-eight days of abduction was not easy. We didn’t think we would have come out alive because we had been abducted by the military.
“We were held in military detention under the Special Forces Command. We will release the details after we get some medical attention. We have not eaten for some fourteen days, and it has been difficult,” Njagi stated.
