A Nairobi man was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling a six year-old girl in Kibera's Makina area.

Wycliffe Mabaya Mugonyi was convicted at the Kibera Law Court for committing the heinous offence in November 2018, inflicting extensive injuries and trauma on the minor.

"During the sentencing hearing, the prosecution through Ms. Ann Murage, requested that the court uphold the minimum sentence prescribed under Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offence Act," the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said in an X statement.

Mugonyi, a security guard, had initially been sentenced to 36 years behind bars after being found guilty of the offence in 2022. He however appealed the ruling.

During the trial, the court heard that he forcibly took the girl to his house after she refused to run an errand for him at a nearby shop, snatching her from a playground.

He then took her innocence, threatening to kill her if she screamed.

Mugonyi's atrocious actions came to light after the minor's mother discovered blood stains on her clothes following the incident
