Drama as Mwijaku Lashes Out at Ommy Dimpoz and Diamond Platnumz Over ‘Work Harder’ Remarks

Tanzanian media personality Mwema Burton, alias Mwijaku, has sharply criticised Bongo Flava musicians Ommy Dimpoz and Diamond Platnumz following their remarks urging Tanzanians to channel their energy into hard work rather than complaining about the government.

The comments, made during a casual hangout on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, sparked intense debate online and in local media, prompting Mwijaku to speak out.

Ommy Dimpoz had told citizens that everyone must take responsibility for their own success, stressing that progress comes through personal effort rather than pointing fingers at leadership.

“Everyone should win their own matches. Do your work and stop the blame game,” he stated, framing his message as encouragement for self-reliance.

Diamond Platnumz echoed similar sentiments, highlighting what he described as a long-standing culture of Tanzanians habitually blaming each new administration without reflecting on personal accountability.

He questioned whether those who constantly criticise leadership should be trusted to govern themselves, insisting that nothing in life comes without effort. Diamond also underscored the hard work behind his own music career, noting that even releasing songs requires relentless dedication.

“Every leadership you complain, every regime you complain. You must reflect whether the problem is the leadership or it is you. Every era you are still complaining. Those people who advise you foolishness, now you complain every time,” Diamond said.

However, Mwijaku, in a statement on Saturday, September 6, 2025, disagreed strongly with the way the message was delivered, arguing that while encouraging citizens to work is acceptable, it is entirely inappropriate to insult or demean them in the process.

“The message to work hard is not wrong, but the problem lies in how it was delivered and the words that were used. You cannot advise people to work and then insult them. You cannot curse or demean people just because they are ordinary followers,” he said.

He added that Ommy Dimpoz, in particular, should remember the years of struggle and grassroots support that helped him rise to his career, cautioning against gloating or moving around with arrogance.

“In particular, I am warning Ommy Dimpoz, he should not speak carelessly. He has gone through many challenges, and we prayed for him. Now he is using harsh and offensive language. If he had said, ‘Work hard, nothing comes easy,’ we would have understood. But the insults he used were unnecessary.”

Mwaijuku also highlighted the need for sensitivity, especially when discussing issues that directly affect ordinary citizens, many of whom face real economic hardships.

He pointed out that criticism should be framed constructively rather than combined with language that risks alienating the very audience it seeks to motivate.

“You cannot advise people to work and then insult them. You cannot curse or demean people just because they are ordinary followers,” he added.

The controversy comes ahead of Tanzania’s general elections scheduled for October 29, 2025, with President Samia Suluhu seeking re-election under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.
