Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lashed out at unnamed leaders seeking to gain political mileage out of the violent anti-government protests that rocked the country recently.

Terming such leaders as idiots, Gachagua said it was saddening that some politicians were now out to settle political scores with individuals they do not agree with on certain issues.

The second in command was speaking at Ntrukuma village, Laikipia County where he was accompanied by Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and three cabinet nominees; Soipan Tuya (Defence), Rebecca Miano (Tourism) and Alice Wahome (Lands) during the burial of Ms Susan Kiiru, mother of the Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau.

"There are even more idiots those who tried to take advantage of the whole scenario to settle political scores with those they do not support and trying to apportion blame. Kenyans are very intelligent; they see from far, analyze and they understand," Gachagua noted. 

On the recent cabinet appointments, the DP urged Kenyans not to evaluate it based on winners and losers saying that the new cabinet appointments are aimed at uniting the country and restoring normalcy in the country. 

"I have seen many people and all sorts of analysis on who won and who lost, but the whole thing is a win for the people of Kenya," he said. 

"Let us all remain united as a country. We have just gone through a difficult period. Those who took advantage of the well-intentioned peaceful protests to loot property, steal and maim are idiots."

The DP further showered praise to the ex-finance CS Prof Njuguna Ndung'u for trying his best to revive the economy during his tenure. 

"Thank you Prof Ndung'u for outstanding performance at The National Treasury. We know where you found our country's economy and worked on its revival. Walk with your head high as you hand over to the new nominee. We are proud of your performance and achievements. We wish you well," said the Deputy President.

In his remarks, CS Mudavadi called for peace and added that the demonstrations have resulted in massive losses to lives and businesses. He asked Kenyans to shun violence and remain patriotic.

"Let us shun violence and chaos in our country. We are saddened because of the lives lost in the protests and the property destroyed. Businesses were ruined and there are people who lost their life savings. We request that we be law-abiding citizens and be patriotic citizens," said Mudavadi.
