Content creator Azziad Nasenya has spoken about how growing up in boarding school played a major role in shaping who she is today.

She said she spent most of her early life in boarding school and believes the experience helped build her character in ways she did not understand at the time.

“I can say I spent most of my time in boarding school. I grew up in boarding school,” Azziad said while on an interview with Mic Cheque podcast on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

She explained that although the experience was difficult at the beginning, her feelings about it have changed over time. Azziad admitted she did not enjoy the system when she first joined.

“As much as I didn’t like it when I began, I appreciate having to have gone through the system of boarding school,” she said, adding that the experience built a lot in her.

She believes her life would have turned out very differently without that chapter.

“I don’t think I would be this kind of person if I hadn’t have gone through there,” Azziad said, describing the journey as tough but meaningful.

Azziad said boarding school forced her to grow up fast.

“It was crazy, but yeah, I do,” she said, before listing some of the lessons she carried with her into adulthood.

She pointed out that independence was one of the biggest things she learned. According to Azziad, life in boarding school teaches self-reliance in very practical ways.

“Independence, washing for yourself, confidence,” she said, noting that students in boarding school learn to rely on themselves.

“You know, when you are in a boarding school, you are on your own. You are literally on your own,” she said.

“Umefika dorm, maji yako imeibiwa, sijui shati yako imeibiwa,” Azziad said, explaining that such moments are part of the experience.

She added that support from home is not always available.

“Huwezi call mzazi, snacks zimeisha, the food is terrible,” she said, pointing out how students are pushed to cope on their own.

She ended by acknowledging those who shared the same experience.

“Watu wa boarding, you know what I am talking about,” Azziad said, showing that the challenges of boarding school create a shared understanding among those who went through it.
