Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya rubbished claims that he has a personal vendetta against the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Natembeya was speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday, where he stated that their disagreement is because they hold different perspectives on leadership in the Western region.
“I don't have any personal problems with him. The issue is how the progression of the Luhya community is viewed,” he said.
“The speaker has been in leadership for almost 30 years but the Luhya community is still divided. There is no unity. Even when you look at government appointments to various positions, the Luhya community is not featured.”
The governor stated that there is no development in the remote areas of Trans Nzoia.
He added that Wetangula referred to himself as the kingpin in the Western region, despite his party, Ford Kenya, having fewer elected leaders.
“He says he is the kingpin in the Western region when his party has very few elected leaders.”
His sentiments come after chaos erupted in Trans Nzoia County on March 22, where supporters of Speaker Moses Wetangula and Governor Natembeya openly clashed during the burial ceremony of the wife of former Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Phillip Nyongesa, the late Sandra Nyongesa.
It was the first time in months that the two leaders had shared a podium as both Wetangula and Natembeya had not been seeing eye-to-eye, and even openly commented on the Mulembe nation unity and the battle for a kingpin.
This incident resulted in Natembeya being labelled as ‘power hungry’, and as been accused of using goons to assert dominance in the region.
