What we know about George Oduor, Raila Odinga’s most trusted bodyguard

The late George Oduor, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bodyguard, has been with the ODM leader since the 1990s.

Although not much is known about Oduor’s personal life, he has been the most visible of Raila’s security detail.

Oduor, who died at a city hospital on Wednesday evening, is said to have been more than a bodyguard to Baba as Raila is fondly referred to in the country.

"You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered to us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us,” Kileleshwa MCA Roberet Alai said upon learning of Oduor's death.

A close friend said Oduor grew up in Kaloleni in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.

“He was keen on fitness training and weightlifting,” the friend told the Star.

“He initially offered his services to Raila’a father, Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.”
