TSC transfers 17 teachers from Isongo school after parents attack principal over KCSE results

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has transferred 17 teachers from St Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Kakamega county.
This follows after a section of parents and students attacked the school principal over the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
During the unfortunate incident, the parents harassed and forced the principal out of the school premises.
A section of key education stakeholders such as Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu strongly condemned the incident terming it shameful.
Oyuu advocated for a stop to the behaviour underscoring that the action by parents poses a threat to the principals and teachers.
"This must stop. Some head teachers and principals have been threatened. It is shameful," Oyuu said.
His sentiments were echoed by Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National Chairperson Omboko Milemba who urged TSC to address the matter by assuring teachers of their safety or transfer them to different schools.
Other teachers' associations such as The Kenya Primary Schools Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA) called on Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki to swing into action and arrest the perpetrators of the unfortunate incident.
"KEPSHA recognizes the significance of holding teachers accountable for academic outcomes, but we firmly denounce any form of harassment or intimidation against school administrators and staff," KEPSHA national chairman Johnson Nzioka said.
"Education is a collaborative effort involving teachers, parents, and communities, and such incidents undermine the very foundation of this collaboration," he added.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu condemned the incident and issued a stern warning against parents attacking principals and teachers.
He defended the teachers saying TSC gauges their performance in different ways.
"We wish to remind communities behind these regrettable attacks that learner achievement in examinations is the reflection of the overall input from all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and candidates themselves," Machogu stated.
