Super Metro has announced plans to launch bus services to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with free rides on its inaugural trip.

In a statement dated Tuesday, the transport company indicated the buses will be leaving the Central Business District (CBD) to the airport as part of its expansion strategy and to allow commuters to catch their flight in time. 

It was noted that electric buses will be used for the new route, with other modern ones set to be introduced.

"Soon, we'll launch new electric buses and more of the 7th Generation NQR series, which will be operating from the CBD straight to JKIA.

"We will keep you posted. We thank you all for your continued support and for believing in our brand," read the statement in part.

The company has yet to detail where the main stage for the new route will be located at CBD and the exact launch date.

However, most company operations are conducted next to Nairobi Archives for buses plying Waiyaki Way and Thika Road.

The stage for their buses heading to Kitengela is located at Ronald Ngala in downtown Nairobi. 

On the other hand, the company has yet to clarify whether the buses will use Mombasa Road or access the Nairobi Expressway, given that the CBD toll stations are currently under construction.

Commuters also expect prices for the new route to be announced after the expiry of the free rides. 

Most matatu operators charge between Ksh50 and Ksh70 from the CBD to the Airport.

 CBD to JKIA is estimated to be around 20 to 30 minutes when there is no traffic snarlup. However with the Nairobi Expressway, one could take 12 minutes.
