Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga says the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is ready to form a government of national unity with the Kenya Kwanza administration for the sake of Kenya’s tranquility.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Sunday, Oburu said in as much as he supports the push by the young generation, the ‘Ruto must go’ calls are unwarranted as they may lead the nation to anarchy.
Oburu pointed out that he is not comfortable with a Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua leadership given his 'shareholder' talks in the past. He argued that in case President William Ruto is ousted, it is Gachagua who will take over.
Oburu says Azimio affiliate parties who are unwilling to be part of the dialogue that has been proposed are also free not to do so.
The Senator added that ODM has its own interest and must further such, expressing disbelief in the stand taken by Wiper leader Kalonzo Muysoka who had initially supported dialogue.
According to Oburu, the unity government will give an opportunity for all Kenyans to have a piece of the national cake.
During the signing of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) (Amendment) Bill, 2024 on July 9, President William Ruto announced a six-day multi-sectoral dialogue forum to discuss issues pressing Kenyans.
The dialogue that was scheduled to start on Monday, July 15, was endorsed by opposition leader Raila Odinga, terming it “the best way forward out of the crisis we are having today as a country.”
“We will give people an opportunity to be heard,” Odinga said, adding that it will provide a platform for Kenyans to air their grievances and table issues they think are ailing the country towards “a lasting solution.”
As at press time, the parties are yet to front members of the dialogue committee, whom Ruto said will be drawn from political parties, religious groups, civil society, employers and youth groups.
