Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has accused President William Ruto of denying him a State commendation award that he had been nominated for by Parliament.
In a candid assessment, Senator Sifuna asserted, 'I always suspected the disdain was mutual,' implying a longstanding belief that there is a lack of mutual respect between him and President Ruto.
"I respect Ruto’s decision denying me the national honors I had been nominated for. I always suspected the disdain was mutual. I thank Parliament for the nomination though. And to all those who made it to the list, congratulations! Happy Jamhuri Day," said Sifuna in a post on his official X account.
The Nairobi Senator reaction came after the release of an official list of over 900 Kenyans who were conferred with State honours on Tuesday as the country marked the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Senator Sifuna was among over 36 individuals who had been nominated for the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) honour.
His name was however left out in the final list of the individuals handed the award by the President.
Public Service CS Moses Kuria has also voiced his reservations after he left out of the list. On his part, Kuria appeared to blame Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
