Scandal: Tutor loses teeth for saying 'hi' to women

A middle-aged man is still recovering from injuries after a fellow patron knocked out two of his teeth in a bar.

Bedda Otiego Esonga, a teacher at a prestigious international school in Nairobi, is accusing Maurice Ochieng Achieng of attacking him at a bar in Umoja Inner Core on 6th January 2025.

On the day of the incident, Esonga, accompanied by a friend, entered the bar, which was full but managed to find a small table in the corner.

After a while, some revellers left, and Esonga and his companion moved to the now-vacant table.

Esonga claims that before they sat down, Ochieng shouted at them from behind, warning them not to speak to two women who were seated at a nearby table.

The complainant explained that he had simply greeted the women, which angered the accused. Ochieng then slapped him.

Esonga said he kept his cool and reported the assault to the bar management, who apologised for the incident.

Shortly after, the accused, who had been attempting to make advances to one of the women, became enraged when the woman allegedly ignored him.

In his fury, Ochieng directed his frustration at Esonga, allegedly launching a violent attack and landing several heavy blows to his head and face until he lost consciousness.

During the attack, Esonga’s two teeth were knocked out. The accused and his friends are reported to have mocked Esonga, telling him to pay his bill, collect his teeth, and go home.

Esonga, who had also sustained a cut to his forehead, collected his teeth, paid his bill, and then went to a police station to report the assault, leading to Ochieng’s arrest.

When the accused appeared in court, he denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000. The case is scheduled for a hearing on 30th July.
