SAVINGS: How a Chama of 13 Women Built Luxurious Villas in Kiambu

A chama of 13 women has marked a milestone with the grand unveiling of 17 luxury villas in the serene Migaa Golf Estate, Kiambu.

The project dubbed Komrades Valley Homes, is an achievement for the Komrades Dream Team, a chama founded by the women with a vision for financial empowerment and real estate investment.

Although they had a modest beginning, the group is now a huge investment enterprise with hundreds of shareholders, including men.

Speaking during the unveiling of the villas, Komrades CEO Elizabeth Mugo stated that they used the little money they had and partnered with Equity Bank’s Ridgeways Branch to finance the project.

The bank issued them with a Chama Loan facility under Pamoja Banking, a program tailored to support self-help groups and community-driven investment initiatives.

“We started as 13 women with a vision, and today, we have grown into an investment group with hundreds of shareholders, including men.

“Equity Bank believed in us, and together, we’ve created high-quality homes that empower women through property ownership and provide a safe and secure foundation for families,” Mugo said.

Beyond real estate, Komrades Dream Team operates subsidiaries specializing in insurance brokerage, medical services, and cooperative savings.
