President Ruto makes new state appointments

President William Ruto has made fresh appointments to state agencies and boards of parastatals.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, December 8, 2023, the Head of State named Joseph Lagat as the new chairperson of the National Mining Corporation.
Lagat will replace Joe Owaka whose appointment was revoked by the president.
He is expected to serve in the position from December 8, 2023, till October 5, 2024.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act. I William Ruto appoint Joseph Lagat to be the chairperson of the National Mining Corporation, with effect from the 8th December 2023 up to the 5th October 2024. The appointment of Joe Owaka Ager is revoked," the gazette notice reads in parts
The president also appointed Jedidah Mwiti, Tom Kahigu, Amos Chetalam, Keneth Gacheru and Timothy Tiampati as members of the Boards of Directors of Consolidated Bank Limited.
Mwiti will serve in the position from December 8, 2023, to October 5, 2024, whereas Kahigu will serve from December 8, 2023, to October 27, 2024.
Chetalam on the other hand will serve in the position from December 8, 2023, till December 21, 2024, whereas Gacheru and Tiampati will serve from December 8, 2023, until June 2, 2025.
With the appointment of the new members, Ruto revoked the appointments of Isaac Mulatya, David Ogega, Nabila Mazrui, Kenneth Otiso, George Mokua and Mary-Karen Chesang.
Similarly, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu announced the appointment of Susan Amlangop Aletia as a member of the Council of Moi University, for three years.
The CS also named Japhet Mvoyi Ria as a member of the Council of the Pwani University.
Ria, whose term began today, Friday, December 8, 2023, will serve in the capacity for three years.
In a separate appointment, Chief Justice Martha Koome named Benard Ochoi as the acting Chairperson of the Water Tribunal.
Ochoi whose term begins on December 11, 2023, will serve in the position for one year.
