Police raid John Matara's home in Kahawa west

Police officers on Wednesday raided the home of John Matara, the main suspect in the death of 26-year-old Starlet Wahu.

Reports indicate that the detectives found several items from Matara's house in Kahawa West in Nairobi that investigators will rely on to piece together the murder puzzle.

These items included HIV testing kits, packs of condoms, empty alcohol bottles, rolls of bhang and notes plastered on the wall of different subjects.

Detectives also discovered that Matara lived a quiet life but mainly used his house to host women.

The apartment's caretaker expressed his disbelief upon receiving the news of Matara's escapades.

"He was a quiet person and he portrayed the character of a good person. I am shocked that he is the main suspect in this murder incident," the caretaker noted.

"Apart from living a quiet life, he also loved alcohol and could be seen in the company of women who frequented his house."

He added that Matara was fond of staying in the house during the day and would leave at night whereby in most cases, would return in the wee hours of the morning in the company of different females.

Further, the caretaker also revealed that Matara would struggle to pay the rent on numerous occasions and hence pleaded for an extension period to acquire the amount.

Matara's childhood friends, who reside in Daraja Mbili in Kisii County, were also perplexed about the accusations facing the suspect.

They described him as a God-fearing Christian who was a staunch Seventh-Day Adventist.

" I used to see him come to church early before anyone else, he knows how to sing well and he was also great at giving advice," one of Matara's friends stated.

Following the incident that occurred on January 3, 2024, several women have also come out to claim that they were sexually assaulted and extorted by Matara in previous incidents.
