Okiya Omtatah calls for the resignation of Police IG and DCI boss over the abduction of Kibet bull

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has accused unnamed officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of abducting cartoonist Gideon Kibet alias Kibet Bull.

In a press address on Thursday, Omtatah said that Kibet was abducted after leaving his office on December 24, 2024. The Senator recalls seeing Subaru vehicles outside his office on the said date, when he was meeting Kibet among other people interested in his presidential plans.

“I believe he was abducted by DCI officers, as soon as he arrived at my office my security detail told me they were monitoring a Subaru which was mounted with spy gadgets used to intercept communications. It was parked across the road from my office. It stayed at that location and left after Mr. Kibet left,” the Senator told journalists.

Omtatah details that after the meeting had ended, his team took Kibet to Kencom bus station, where he was to board a bus to Kikuyu.

He says that on learning of the abduction, his team conducted a search on the mysterious vehicle on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) where it emerged that it belonged to a person named Caroline.

Omtatah claimed that there is collusion by the state and Inspector General Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohamed Amin should be held accountable for the abduction.

“They are incompetent and should resign with immediate effect,” the Busia legislator said as he demanded release of the cartoonist.

“This is the second person who is abducted after leaving my office and I feel like they are sending a message to me. The first person to be abducted after leaving my office was Bob Njagi,” he added.

According to Omtatah, Kibet was scheduled to travel to Israel on 27th to join Tel Aviv University for further studies.

On Wednesday, Kibet’s sister Mercy Cherotich told Citizen Digital that their brother Rony Kiplangat has also been missing since Saturday.

Cherotich details that Kibet’s main mission in Nairobi was to find out the whereabouts of his brother who was missing at his Kikuyu home.

The family says that Kibet had been avoiding the city for fear he could be held for criticising President William Ruto and his government.

The family says they reported Kiplangat’s disappearance at a police station and were given an OB.

The cartoonist is a student at Egerton University in Nakuru, and is well known for sharing silhouette images with characters of President Ruto’s likeness. He has also shared images of depicting other leaders from the executive and judiciary.

Omtatah says he reported Kibet’s disappearance at Upper Hill police station.
